Paediatric Consultant, Catherine McKnight and Paediatric Staff Nurse, Gabor Kovacs will cycle the gruelling 300 miles in September to raise money for the children’s charity, Dreamflight.

Both Catherine and Gabor, both from Orton Longueville, have volunteered with Dreamflight in the past and are planning to volunteer their services this year as well as fundraise for the cause.

Gabor said: “Every year Dreamflight offer 192 children with serious illnesses or disabilities the chance to go to Florida, where they spend 10 magical days in Orlando. However, without the support of volunteers and fundraisers, they would not be able to offer poorly children this wonderful opportunity.”

To prepare for the challenge, the pair have been cycling around Peterborough’s Green Wheel cycle way on their days off and in the evenings.

Catherine said: “Working in Paediatrics, this is a charity that is close to our hearts and we have both seen first-hand how children benefit from their work. Through Dreamflight, children are given the chance to meet their favourite Disney characters, ride roller-coasters and even swim with dolphins.

“Although cycling from London to Paris will be long and gruelling, it is nothing in comparison to the daily challenges dreamflight children face in their struggle with their illness. We are hoping to raise enough to fund at least one deserving child’s place on the trip, which is £3,500.”
