Have your say

You’ve got to hand it to Peterborough City Council leader Marco Cereste, he always looks on the bright side.

Well that’s one way of looking at his enthusiasm, some might say obsession, for solar energy.

Lesser mortals might have backed off after getting their fingers burned with the problems with the panels on the old Freemans building and the costly (£3million) and failed bid to create a solar farm out Thorney way.

But, no, he’s back with another “win/win’’ plan.

This time the idea is for the free installation of solar panels on private homes.

The blue sky thinking means in theory the resident gets free panels AND money off energy bills and the cash-strapped council pockets a significant funding boost.

What’s not to like?

I’m not sure, but no doubt some of his “fans’’ will be letting us know.

I’m quite ambivalent to solar energy – the panels look ugly and ripping up good farmland for them seems a shame. But on the other hand we need energy and solar farms seem a less destructive source of energy than, for example, fracking.

I once had the cheek to suggest that maybe there should be a public inquiry into the Thorney schemes and if (and only if) the case for the greater good was proved they should get the go-ahead.

For daring to even suggest this I was targeted by the internet trolls. But I hope this plan is as good as it seems on the face of it.. and if it’s not don’t blame me.

I might, if I get the opportunity, join in, although knowing my luck my roof will be facing the wrong way.

In which case it would be pointless putting Marco’s panels where the sun don’t shine.

It only winged me

Singer Ariana Grande got smacked in the mush by an angel’s wing when she performed at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show – one of the highlights of the Sad Old Man’s social calendar. Winged by an angel... now that’s not your average assault.

Swings and...

UKIP has selected Mary Herdman to contest the Peterborough seat at the next election. She declared: “It’s a winnable seat. It’s a seat that swings.’’

Well, that’s the pervert vote wrapped up.

Sack the Santas

I know I’m a grumpy old git but I will not spend money in a shop where any member of staff is wearing a Santa hat...

and that includes shops selling Santa hats!
