Letter: Phone directories on doorsteps an open invitation to burglars - 03/07/09

In these days when crime is prevalent and we are constantly being warned to make sure our premises are secure by locking all doors and windows, leaving no temptation for burglars, I was amazed to see, door after door, copies of the Yellow Pages had been left on doorsteps.

In these days when crime is prevalent and we are constantly being warned to make sure our premises are secure by locking all doors and windows, leaving no temptation for burglars, I was amazed to see, door after door, copies of the Yellow Pages had been left on doorsteps. What if you are on holiday? Or out for only a few hours?

Surely this is a telltale sign no one is at home and an open invitation to the burglar?

On many occasions I have contacted Yellow Pages and have been told it is not its policy to do this and the relevant people will be told, so why does this stupid practice continue?

Some poor person is going to be another statistic of what is now a very frequent crime.
