Letter: Nigel says what wethink on sentence - 29/06/09

At last – someone who has had the guts to state what everyone thinks. well done Nigel (Thornton on Thursday, ET, June 25).

At last – someone who has had the guts to state what everyone thinks. well done Nigel (Thornton on Thursday, ET, June 25).If you want a loan with no interest, walk into a bank, nick three grand, and once the police catch you, some idiot will only make you pay back 250.

Three weeks ago, a young lady who lives in Peterborough, who has had 119 convictions – yes that's right, 119 – wrote a letter regarding her parole hearing to get out of prison early, because, all of a sudden, she was reformed.

Yeah, right – 119 convictions – we all believe that one, dont we?

But they did and, guess what? That's right – they let her out.

Why don't the Peterborough courts just write an open letter to every criminal out there: "Come to Peterborough. Don't worry about the police because when you come in front of the court, we are soft on crime and its causes."

Evening telegraph reporters, for the sake of our city, start a campaign and do some digging and let the voters (we, the public) know what else these so called educated folk at the courts are letting people get away with.

Just a quick warning though – whatever you do, don't drop any litter outside the court.

You get an 80 fine for that – only 170 less than the young lady got for stealing 3,000.
