ET Comment: Lloyd's find makes a pleasant change - 03/07/09

THE old adage about finding a penny and having good luck might not always ring true, but for Lloyd Heffernan finding a 20p in his change certainly did.

THE old adage about finding a penny and having good luck might not always ring true, but for Lloyd Heffernan finding a 20p in his change certainly did.Lloyd, like many people enjoying the fine weather, was having a pint after work with friends when he checked his change – and realised he was in the money.

With the rare coins – they were issued without a date on either side – going for thousands on eBay, it is fair to say he could be minted.

Not even biking bobbies are safe

RAIL users in Peterborough have had their fair share of bad news this week with the demise of National Express.

So figures that show three cycles are stolen while left at the city's railway station every week over the last year will do little to cheer them.

The latest crackdown to combat cycle thefts, launched by British Transport Police constable Chris Thompson-Chambers, might just lift their spirits.

He has fitted electronic security tags to more than 100 commuters' bikes, which might be enough to deter thieves in future.

And it could just prevent others becoming victims of crime, after all, he knows how they feel after having his bike – and its replacement – stolen from there himself.

No one, it would seem, is immune – not even the police.
