The centre received the SCEPTRE award for its Growing Greener energy management scheme - beating off challenges from premier centres such as Westfield London and Stratford and Bluewater in Kent.

The Queensgate challenge was led by the centre’s environmental manager, Carol Wakelin.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted with the award and to beat off such huge competition as Westfield and Bluewater really confirms Queensgate’s position on protecting the environment.

“I am extremely proud of the Growing Greener initiative and the hard work the team and retailers have put in to make this the success it is today.”

The judges said that Queensgate’s Growing Greener entry was “an excellent packaged product produced by the centre and tenant-focused.”

Now, Jones Lang LaSalle, the management company for Queensgate, plans to roll out the initiative across its retail portfolio of shopping centres in the UK.
