Hundreds of musicians with bands, choirs, and orchestras will be performing live in cafes, clubs and on the streets in Peterborough for a day.
Shoppers can enjoy a variety of performances from choral music to ukelele bands, hip hop to jazz in a project called Music Takeover between 10.30am and 5pm on Saturday.
Public stages will include Queensgate, Cathedral Square and H&M.
Musicians and singer songwriters will also be making special lunchtime appearances across city bars, cafes and shops across the town centre from 1pm.
The extravaganza is being co-ordinated by Peterborough Presents, part of an Arts Council England funded venture to encourage more people to get involved with the arts.
Josie Hickin, programme manager, said: “This is the first event in a three year programme to shine a light on the creative talent in Peterborough.
She said: “Not only did we want to give people coming into the city centre some wonderful entertainment from some of Peterborough’s best musicians while they are having lunch, we also wanted to support our local bar and restaurant scene.
“Music Takeover is not only about showcasing local and international talent; it’s also about animating the city’s spaces.”
