Monday, 9.05am: A violent thug who disappeared after being convicted of a vicious assault against a taxi driver is back in police hands and is due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today.

Wanted man Curtis King (23), of Cavendish Street, Peterborough, was arrested late on Saturday night after turning himself in at the city’s Thorpe Wood Police Station.

Police had been searching for King after he allegedly fled Huntingdon Crown Court on Thursday.

King was found guilty on Thursday by a jury at Huntingdon Crown Court of assault causing actual bodily harm to taxi driver Mohammed Farooq in June.

However, after being told earlier in the day he faced being sent to prison if convicted, he failed to answer bail to hear the jury deliver its verdict – leading Recorder Robert Blomfield to issue a warrant for his arrest.

King’s sister, mother-of-one Tanisha King (24), also of Cavendish Street, was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm as part of the same three-day trial.

She has been bailed until a sentencing hearing at Peterborough Crown Court next month.

The attack took place in the early hours of June 4 at the corner of Russell Street and Cromwell Road, in Peterborough.

It left Mr Farooq (23) with a fractured cheek, severe bruising to his left eye and fractured ribs.

He was punched by Tanisha King before being struck and knocked to the ground by Curtis King outside the Marisqueira cafe.

Curtis King then kicked the stricken cabbie while he was on the ground.

Both had denied the charges against them.

Following the attack, police publicly apologised to Mr Farooq, admitting they got aspects of their investigation into his case wrong.
