Thieves steal copper pipe from dry cleaners
THIEVES closed a Peterborough firm for a day after ripping copper pipes from a cleaning business’ wall.
Staff at Easywash Laundry and Dry Cleaners, in Skaters Way, Werrington, opened up after the weekend yesterday only to find the water didn’t work.
It soon became clear a small section of copper pipe had been stolen.
Owner Nick Meadows said: “Quite helpfully whoever did it closed off the water before they took the pipes, although there was still a bit of water came out.
“It’s just ridiculous. The amount of effort they have gone to, and the damage they did to the shed, just for about two metres of copper pipe.
“It’s probably only worth about £20
“Hopefully we won’t lose any business, it just means we will have a backlog.”
The company, which employs three people as well as Mr Meadows, had to shut yesterday but hoped to reopen this morning.
Police are now investigating the theft and are appealing for witnesses.
A Cambridgeshire police spokeswoman said: “Offenders climbed over the back gate, broke into a shed and stole copper piping.
“We are investigating the incident and carrying out local enquiries.”
Anyone with information should contact police on the non emergency number 101.
