Annette Atkinson (46)

is Peterborough Volunteer Centre co-ordinator.What is most enjoyable about your job or voluntary role?

Helping someone find voluntary work and meeting them later to find out how its changed their lives and how well they are doing.

What is your favourite thing about Peterborough?

I'm a Peterborian born and bred, so I love it because it's home. I look forward to the plans for the city development to make it a more vibrant place to live and opening the night life up in the city centre.

I hope we end up feeling like

Cambridge or Leeds.

What has been the most satisfying moment in your job or voluntary role?

We did a pilot project for six months called Volunteering Into Employment, and met some of the most courageous people who have faced some things we cannot even imagine, and with a little TLC have been able to move into a good place in their life, and being part of that will always remain with me.

What is your biggest hope for the rest of 2009?

We are striving to make volunteering in our city a good experience for everyone, and with an eye on the local people facing redundancy we hope to offer some more interesting and unusual voluntary roles for the different levels of skills being offered into voluntary organisations.

If money was no object, what one single thing would you do to help Peterborough?

To secure funding for organisations which support some of the most vulnerable people in our city. Losing funding streams wastes experience and skills.
