AN eye-catching landmark and familiar sight to motorists using the A1 has been demolished. The spaceship-shaped former Megatron restaurant was a recognisable roadside feature to motorists for 18 years
But the building had been empty for some years since it was closed by burger chain McDonald's.
The Megatron, which was said to have cost 3.2 million when it opened in 1990, was supposed to have been the first in a chain.
It carried its hi-tech spaceship theme inside, where customers could order their food through a computerised console.
The restaurant situated just off the A14 in Alconbury, not far from the A1(M) (See an aerial shot of the circular shaped restaurant on Google Maps), was later taken over by McDonald's.
The building was knocked down at the weekend to make way for future developments.
