A PROSTITUTE has been jailed for breaching a court order that banned her from the city’s red light district.

Yasmin Khan (36) was given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) by magistrates on Wednesday last week, stopping her from going to the Burghley Road area of the city.

The order was made after Khan was branded one of the most prolific prostitutes in the city by police.

At the time she was given the order, Khan was serving a jail term for a theft, and was released on Friday – but just hours later she was arrested when police found her on Burghley Road.

On Monday, Khan, who gave her address to the court as Kesteven Walk, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, where she pleaded guilty to breaching the anti-social behaviour order, and was locked up for another 24 days. Jackie Knight, prosecuting, told the court: “She was issued with an ASBO on February 15 at this court.

“She was serving a four week sentence for theft, which was issued on February 1, at the time and was released from prison on Friday, February 18.

She added: “At 8.10pm she was seen walking along Burghley Road, heading towards Park Road.

“She was arrested and taken to the police station, where she gave a positive drugs test for both cocaine and opiates.

“She admitted that she understood the terms of the ASBO.

“She said she had gone to her sister’s address in Chaucer Road when she was released, but had been unable to stay at the address, and had walked to a hostel in Towler Street.

Rebecca Keogh, defending, said: “She had issues with accommodation, and had gone to her sister’s home, but she was away for the weekend.

“She had also gone to the hostel, but was unable to stay there.

“She was making her way to a friend’s house in Kesteven Walk, when she was arrested.

“She had attended an appointment with Peterborough Nene Drug Interventions Programme (PNDIP), and is committed to dealing with her drug problems.

“She has the support of her family, and she was simply traversing the area to find accommodation, and get back on her feet.

“It was not the most flagrant breach of an order.”

However, District Judge Ken Sheraton said: “This offence was committed on the day you were released from custody.

“The fact you tested positive for cocaine and opiates tells me a great deal about your character.

“It is clear you were aware of the conditions of the ASBO, and you chose to ignore it.”

He sentenced her to 14 days in prison for breaching her ASBO, and recalled her to prison for 10 days for the theft, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
