THIS week we've decided to give our stamp of approval to Irfan Khan, who does a first class job of helping to run the award-winning Eastfield Road Post Office, in Peterborough.Irfan was presented with a Pride In Peterborough front page to mark several achievements at his family-run city business.

For there has been plenty to celebrate in recent months. First of all, the post office beat the axe in the last round of cuts, and, more recently, those who run it have been celebrating after beating more than 500 other branches to win a gold award for most improved branch, awarded by the Post Office.

Irfan Khan (28), whose family has been running the post office since 1989, said he was delighted with the success.

He said: "We were very surprised, but also very pleased to pick up the award.

"All the sections of our business have been performing much better recently, from mail to special deliveries.

"It is the first time we have ever won anything such as this, and it is fantastic to have this success after all the years we have been here."

Mr Khan said despite the recession, the business had seen more and more customers coming through the doors over the past 12 months.

He said: "We have seen a much greater footfall over the last year, and that is obviously helping our business.

"I am not entirely sure why we are doing so well at the moment. I don't think there is a secret to beating the credit crunch.

"Of course, a few branches across the city had to close last year, so we are probably seeing a few new customers coming in because of that.

"Since the credit crunch began, we have also seen an increase in people using eBay and posting packages, which has helped.

"But everyone has always commented on the friendly service we give here.

"It is our natural style, and I think that is what brings the customers back. We have some very loyal customers, and I want to thank them all.

"We have put the plaque on display in the shop to thank them for helping us."
