NEW boy Russell Martin believes Liverpool's reserve side will provide Posh with as tough a test as a meeting with Steve Gerrard, Fernando Torres and co.Martin, a right-back signed for an undisclosed fee from Wycombe Wanderers earlier in the summer, can't wait to line up against The Reds tomorrow, even though he's unlikely to recognise too many of his opponents.

Martin said: "It doesn't matter who they put out. Just to get a contract at Liverpool means you are a quality footballer.

"The fact that we are playing their reserves doesn't mean a lot in competitive terms. If anything a reserve side might put more into it because they are trying to impress in every game they play.

"I can't wait because it's sure to be a quality match. I have joined a club which plays good football and everyone know Liverpool's reputation.

"It's also my first appearance as a Posh player at London Road so I see it as a big game. I've been very happy with the way things have gone in my first few weeks here.

"Wycombe were encouraged to play football in the opposition half, but here we have the freedom to express ourselves in every area of the pitch.

"I have stepped up a level by joining Posh. There are class players here in every position and the training is conducted at a real tempo.

"I've been getting on great with Chris Whelpdale down the right hand side. He's a real fit lad who is going to be a great talent and it's great for the club that they've managed to sign Sergio Torres.

"He won't run beyond the full-back much, but he loves the ball to his feet and has great trickery."

Spurs fan Martin spent three years at Wycombe racking up close to 100 appearances before moving to Posh when his Adams Park contract expired in the summer.

Posh paid a combined fee 200,000 for Martin and winger Torres with the bulk spent on the Argentinian.

Martin's career highlight so far is two appearances against Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup in 2007.

Martin added: "They were great occasions even though it was quite frightening in the second leg at Stamford Bridge as the speed and skill of their players was amazing.

"We had done really well in the first leg at home to draw 1-1 and I thought I'd scored from a free-kick until Peter Cech appeared from nowhere to save it. But Chelsea just ran all over us at the Bridge."
