Wednesday, 6.30pm: Residents in Lincolnshire are being advised police are experiencing problems with incoming calls to the non-emergency 101 number this evening (September 18).
Call takers in the control room can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear them.
Engineers are working on the problem and hope to have it fixed later this evening.
The 999 emergency system is not affected and anyone with a genuine emergency should use that number, the force recommends.
A spokesman said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and ask non-emergency callers to try the 101 number again later in the evening.”
