Peterborough postal workers catch up on mail backlog

POSTAL services across Peterborough are back to normal following a power cut which left Peterborough's main sorting depot.

POSTAL services across Peterborough are back to normal following a power cut which left Peterborough's main sorting depot.Royal Mail has apologised to customers across the PE1 to PE28 postcodes who were without post on Wednesday morning (3 February).

The hour-long power cut hit the Werrington depot at around 11.11pm on Tuesday following a fault in an underground cable.

Although electricity was restored at about 12.25am, machines at the centre failed to power up, the lights would not turn on and the heating would not work.

It meant mail could not be processed and lorries could not get in or out of the building because the entrance and exit barriers would not work.

Postmen and women across the city were sent home while work was carried out to fix the problem.

They returned to work Wednesday evening and deliveries returned to normal on Thursday morning.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "Normal delivery services resumed on Thursday.

"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused."
