A Peterborough man who was jailed for four weeks for drink-driving while he was disqualified said he only got behind the wheel to stop his drunk friend from driving.Adeel Ahmed (22), of Greenham, Bretton, Peterborough, admitted drink-driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Friday.
The court heard how he was stopped by police in Gladstone Street, Peterborough, at 1am, on January 28, after they noticed he was not wearing a seatbelt.
A breath test taken by officers registered 54 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes. They also found he had been banned from driving for 16 months last June.
Richard Brown, defending, said Ahmed had only driven to stop one of his friends from driving home, as he was in an even worse state.
District Judge Ken Sheraton sentenced Ahmed to four weeks in jail for driving while disqualified and four weeks for drink-driving, to run concurrently.
He also gave him a three-year driving ban, which will run concurrently with his other 16-month ban.
