Peterborough's Poet laureate is named

A NEW poet laureate for Peterborough was crowned last night as the cream of the city's wordsmiths battled it out.

A NEW poet laureate for Peterborough was crowned last night as the cream of the city's wordsmiths battled it out.This year's final saw 14 competitors reading their poems about remembrance on stage at the John Clare Theatre in Central Library – but topics ranged from war poetry to looking at the future of Peterborough.

The winner, taking over from English teacher Mark Grist, was 31-year-old Keely Mills, for her poem The Remembrance of Self.

Runners up included Julian Ransom and Donnie MacColl, who each received prizes from Waterstone's.
