Peterborough Children’s Film Awards for secondary schools 2010
Peterborough Young People's Green Carpet Film Awards 2010.
PETERBOROUGH’S future stars of stage and screen were given their own Hollywood moment at an awards ceremony last night.
The Peterborough Children’s Film Awards for secondary school pupils took place at Kingsgate Community Church in Parnwell, with talented youngsters from across the city taking their first steps on the way to a career on the silver screen.
The glitz and glamour of previous years’ ceremonies was retained, with teenagers dressed to impress for their Oscars-style moment.
But instead of a red carpet, the stars of the show walked in on a green carpet, to encourage people to stay environmentally friendly.
Janet MacPhee, project director of Peterborough City Council’s literacy scheme READ. WRITE.inspire, which organised the awards, said: “All the children were asked to sign a green schools pledge, which asked them to switch off computers and cameras when they were not being used, use recyclable props and conserve water and electricity.

“We were very impressed with all the youngsters’ efforts.
“Every year the films get better and better in every aspect, from sound quality to editing.”
In the past top stars, such as Monty Python’s Michael Palin and chat show legend Michael Parkinson have sent messages congratulating winners on their imagination and creativity.
Last night eight awards were presented, for both drama and documentaries made by the pupils in their schools.
Primary schools will show off their movie making ability at a second ceremony tonight, with 11 awards on offer.
