Notorious drunk swore at shoppers
A NOTORIOUS drunk has been fined for using threatening behaviour in a Peterborough wine store.
Shepherd Gandi (41), of Bamber Street, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to using threatening words.
Jackie Knight, prosecuting, said that Gandi was in Peterborough Food and Wine in Eastfield Road on November 22 when he became abusive to members of the public.
She said: “The defendant was swearing and making gestures to shoppers in the store. He has a long record of similar offences.”
Gandi was fined £50 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15.
Addressing Gandi, chairman of the bench Lionel Cunnington said: “You appear to be a very pleasant man when you’re sober.
“But when you’re drunk – you turn into a nuisance.”
He advised Gandi to get treatment to tackle his alcohol problems and said: “I want to see more of the good Shepherd in future.”
