A life-saving air ambulance charity showcased its new night capable helicopter at a special event for supporters at the weekend.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) invited sponsors to Conington Airfield, near Holme, on Saturday, to inspect one of its two new vehicles.
Once operational, the aircraft will make EAAA the first air ambulance in the country to be cleared to fly at night.
Area fund-raising manager for EAAA Chris Donaldson said: “It was a great pleasure on Saturday to be able show the public exactly where the money goes.”
The new vehicles have taken the charity’s annual operating costs from about £4 million to £6 million.
Among the supporters attending the event was the U3A’s Patchwork and Quilting Group, which had raised more than £1,800 for the charity through an exhibition at St John the Baptist Church, in Church Street, Peterborough, in June.
Coordinator Winne Wakefield said: “It’s wonderful the work they do and we felt very privileged to see it so close.”
It is expected that life-saving missions during the hours of darkness will begin by the end of the year.
