Ortons: Licence granted to Tesco

News from the Peterborough Telegraph - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news, @peterboroughtel on Twitter

A Tesco supermarket due to open in Orton Wistow, Peterborough in December has been granted a licence to sell alcohol.

A Tesco Express store will open at the site of the former Chequers pub in Napier Place, Orton Wistow, in mid-December after buying the lease for the building earlier this year.

Peterborough City Council’s licensing act sub-committee on Friday granted Tesco a licence application to sell alcohol at the site between 6am and 11pm every day.

An Orton Wistow resident Michael Keogh spoke out against the application during the meeting. He said: “We feel the licence would act as a magnet for undesirable people such as alcoholics to come into the area.

“We also have concerns over increased traffic and parking facilities.”
