People gathered to make the most of the winter landscape at Whittlesey Wash today (Saturday) as heavy rain followed by milder temperatures is forecast.

Heavy rain overnight tonight (Saturday, January 26) will be followed by sunny spells and temperatures rising to a high of around 12C on Tuesday.

Snow and ice will melt leading to high river levels but the Environment Agency said there were no flood warnings for the Peterborough area.

The Met office forecast a dry, sunny day on Sunday with temperatures up to 7C.

Monday will see more cloud and some showers with heavy rain forecast for Tuesday, with temperatures up to 12C and wind speeds as high as 42mph at times.

One onlooker at Whittlesey Wash said: “There were lots of people with sledges and skates but the surface was getting very watery. The thaw is well underway and this could be the last chance for some fun.”
