In pictures: Sparkling atmosphere at Starlight Hike

Start of the Starlight Hike in aid of Sue Ryder from Peterborough Greyhound Stadium

Hundreds of people enjoyed a midnight stroll around Peterborough in aid of the Thorpe Hall Hospice on Saturday night (8 September).

The annual event, organised by Sue Ryder, was re-branded this year to the Starlight Hike and let men join in for the first time.

It is a 10km walk around the city, starting and finishing at Peterborough Greyhound Stadium, in Fengate, and including entertainment from several acts.

Alison Baker (39), of Old Fletton, was returning to walk, having completed a 10 mile version in previous years.

She completed the walk in an hour and a half, bringing her in the top 20 of those who completed.

Alison said: “It is really good. It seems that everybody gets together, it is always a nice feeling and a good atmosphere.

“We wore pink wigs with lights in which meant we stood out and got everybody’s attention.”

Sue Ryder hopes to raise about £50,000 from the event, which is one of the biggest of its fundraisers for Thorpe Hall Hospice.

More on this in this week’s Peterborough Telegraph
