Garage fire south on Huntingdon now almost extinguished

News from the Peterborough Telegraph - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news

News from the Peterborough Telegraph - peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news

Wednesday, 11am: Firefighters have almost extinguished a blaze at a car maintenance workshop this morning.

Crews were called to the fire at Milestone Motor Company in Manor Farm, Papworth Road, Graveley, at 3.30am.

Due to several oxy acetylene cylinders inside the building, the fire service has put a 200 metre cordon in place and police have alerted residents within its perimeter, some of whom have been evacuated from their homes.

Other residents, who are less at risk, have been advised of the situation.

Inside the garage, measuring 20 metres and 30 metres, there are about 15 cars.

Crews are tackling the fire using three jets and one ground monitor, which is a hose reel fixed to the ground.

The crews at the scene include: one crew from Papworth, two crews from St Neots, two crews from Huntingdon, one crew from Gamlingay, one crew from St Ives and a crew from Ramsey. Also in attendance is the water carrier from Yaxley.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said the blaze is under control and crews are in the process of cooling the cylinders.
