Motorists warned of flood delays
MOTORISTS are being warned about delays on the roads while flood defences are secured.
The latest phase of the Wisbech flood wall reconstruction work starts on Friday, February 24, and motorists can expect disruption while the work is carried out.
Nene Quay will be closed to all vehicles from 9pm on February 24, with the closure expected to last around 16 days.
The existing river wall and cantilever road, which date from the 1930s, no longer meet modern engineering standards and the flood wall is considered to be too low for predicted future flood levels.
The latest work will involve the installation of steel sheet piles to strengthen the retaining wall that supports the Nene Quay river bank and the road above.
Diversions will be in place. Northbound traffic will be routed via the Old Market Place and southbound vehicles via Churchill Road and the A47 bypass to avoid other roadworks in Wisbech.
