Jack Hunt School: star pupils reap rewards
PRIZES have been given out to outstanding pupils, as Jack Hunt School celebrated a year of achievement.
PRIZES have been given out to outstanding pupils, as Jack Hunt School celebrated a year of achievement.The Right Honourable Lord Brian Mawhinney of Peterborough was the guest of honour at the Netherton school's annual presentation evening.
Pupils, both past and present, were rewarded for their hard work, commitment and contribution to subjects that they have studied and areas of school life.
They also received their certificates for A-levels, GCSEs and vocational qualifications.
Proud headteacher Roy Duncan said: "We were delighted to welcome Lord Mawhinney to the school for our annual prize-giving and A-level certificate presentations.
"Pupils of all ages were presented with prestigious school awards, having excelled in a wide range of subjects, events and activities".
Leena Pankhania was rewarded for four Grade A passes at A-level, while Joanna Capela impressed with 11 A*s and two A grades at GCSE.
Sanna Quraishy was the pupil who had made the most progress while Arifa Nasreen won a prize for outstanding personal achievement. Andrea Corrado scooped the award for technology while Hannah Burbridge shone in music.
Christopher Clarke won the award for business studies while Luke Roden and Kate Thompson tied for the scientific investigation for further research in physics, with Thomas Chung winning the sport award.
And not to be left behind were the sporting stars, as Jack Hunt held its inaugural sports awards evening on January 7 in front of proud parents and staff.
Former Olympic gymnast Craig Heap, gave a captivating and humorous speech that showed how important it was to learn from failure and use it as a tool to motivate people towards greater achievements in the future.
Rehna Saghir won the outstanding contribution for assisting in PE classes, while the all-rounder award went to Hannah Sharman and outstanding achievement in sport to James Fox.
Peter Lukasik made the best progress, along with Daniel Martin and Alessandro Corbino, who proved to be the best leader at the school.
Best sports person in GCSE PE was grabbed by Thomas Chung and the team awards went to the Year 7/8 cricket team for the boys and the Year 10 Rounders Team for the girls.
The school's sports director, Chris Game, said: "It was fantastic to see so many pupils and parents celebrating achievements in physical education at Jack Hunt School.
"Craig Heap was a real inspiration to all who attended.
