VANDALS in Hampton are putting lives at risk by stealing and hiding life-saving equipment.Police are currently seeing a number of incidents where lifebuoys and safety aids around Hampton's various lakes are being stolen.

A police spokesman said: "We have had reports of incidents, particularly around the large lake situated between Eastwater Crescent, Westwater Crescent, Lakeview Way and Braymere Road where youths have been seen to throw the buoys towards the centre of the lake.

"Spending time recovering the buoys before they are back in place and ready to use is putting people's lives at risk."

Developer O&H Hampton currently replaces and checks the buoys regularly.

The police spokesman added: "This is clearly of concern to local residents and has been raised by them to us recently.

"If anyone knows who may be responsible for this we would like them to remind them of how important the buoys are."

Anyone with information about who has been removinng the buoys and putting peoples lives' at risk, should call police on 0345 456 4564 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
