WEDNESDAY UPDATE 1PM: A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called at 7.18pm on Monday, October 6. "A man said he thought something, possibly a plane heading towards Newborough, had fallen from the sky.

"A crew from Dogtshorpe were sent out to the scene, in Hodgson Avenue, Werrington, to investigate."

The call tuned out to be a false alarm and the fire service believes the resident may have been dazzled by the lights from the fair on the Embankment.

TUESDAY 6PM: REPORTS have been coming in that a fireball was seen in the sky over Peterborough last night (Monday).

One Evening Telegraph reader in Werrington said he had seen a flaming ball moving across the sky just after 7pm, before it broke up.

Another called the fire brigade after seeing the aerial phenomenon - and a fire crew turned out to Werrington to investigate.
