A RAFFLE raised £8,500 to fund research into a rare genetic illness.

Connor Wright Shwachman-Diamond Project received the cash boost from its annual raffle where the star prize was a car donated by Boongate Kia in Peterborough.

Tickets were sold from March at Peterborough Greyhound Stadium and the winner was Robert Mitchell, from Folksworth.

The charity was set up to raise money for research into Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome at Great Ormond Street Hospital by Susan Kilby, from Crowland, after her grandson Connor was diagnosed with it five years ago.

She said: “We would to thank everyone who bought a raffle ticket for their fantastic support.”
