Cameras are damaged
VANDALISM to speed cameras in Lincolnshire, which includes Spalding, the Deepings, Bourne and Stamford, has cost the county almost £500,000 over the past three years.
A total of seven cameras have been damaged so far in 2010 compared to a total of 13 in 2009 and 11 in 2008.
This year, £178,000 has been spent so far on repairs or replacements. Replacing a damaged speed camera can cost up to £40,000.
Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership was formed in June 2000 with the aim of reducing the number of people killed and injured on the county’s roads.
It said damaged cameras would be replaced with more robust digital cameras.
More than £1 million was collected in speed camera fines in 2009.
