Fryz fish and chip shop in the Bretton Centre is celebrating after their portions were judged the tastiest in the region - and say local spuds are the secret of their success.Caroline West and Robert Brownlee have every reason to feel chip-per, after their fish and chip shop in Bretton, Peterborough scooped the Love Chips' Perfect Portion Award for the Eastern region during National Chip Week.
The fishery is now hoping to go one batter and be named Britain's best chippie in the national category of the awards.
To top it off, they could be in for a visit this week from celebrity chip connoisseur Keith Chegwin, who is promoting the awards.
Caroline has only been producing delicious fries for more than a year - but cooking fish and chips is in her blood.
Her father ran a shop called the Trawlerman, in Bretton, for more than 40 years - proving his daughter is definitely a chip off the old block.
Caroline (33), who has a two-year-old daughter called Alexa with partner Robert (32), puts the secret of their success down to using local spuds.
She also credits a scientific approach to preparing their chips, and tips passed on through generations of her family as key secrets.
She said: "Fish and chips are part of our heritage. My dad has such a wealth of experience. My brother also runs a fish and chip shop.
"We have got a really good relationship with our potato merchant, John Bigham, and we use great potatoes straight from Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire soil.
"We also have to be adaptable to the potatoes' needs through the year. Last year's dry conditions means they need extra attention to make them the best chip they can be. The recent cold snap might have damaged some spuds in stores. Time will tell.
"It's also important to look after your oil."
Robert added: "This area is one of the best areas in the country to grow potatoes. The conditions and the land are perfect for it."
The couple employ 14 staff, and are holders of the prestigious Seafish Friers Quality Award, which is presented to businesses who meet exacting standards of quality - from good hygiene to great tasting chips.

The Potato Council will announce the overall champion at the end of National Chip Week, which runs from February 15 to February 21.
