Supermarket giant Lidl will be holding a public consultation to outline plans for its new store on Lincoln Road, in Werrington near Mancetter Square.

The public are invited to attend the event, which will take place from 3pm – 7pmon on April 1 at the Community Room, Werrington Leisure Centre. In addition to Lidl’s dedicated property team, planners Jones Lang Lasallewill be on hand to outline the supermarket’s plans for a new store and answer any questions from the local community.

The supermarket revealed in December that it wants to open a brand new store in Peterborough, as part of its ongoing expansion ambitions within the UK.

The proposed multi-million pound investment will see Lidl commit to building a sustainable 2,443m² store on a 8,004m² site, with plans to create up to 40 new jobs. The supermarket will boast state of the art facilities including a bakery, 6 tills and 138 parking spaces.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, Colin Rimmer, commented: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new Lidl in Peterborough and serving our fresh, quality and incredibly good value produce which shoppers across the country have come to love. We look forward to welcoming anyone along to the public consultation day and showcasing our plans whilst answering any questions.”

The supermarket, which was crowned Grocer of the Year at the 2015 Grocer Gold Awards, has experienced continued growth over the years, as consumers flock to the shop to discover products ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables to premiums wines from its much coveted Wine Cellar collections. Lidl’s success shows no signs of slowing, as the latest Kantar Worldpanel results outline its continued growth and market share of 4.2%.

The planned store on Lincoln Road will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 630, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see this increase to 1,200 store in the future.

The company hopes to submit a planning application mid-April and those who wish to view the plans online and share any feedback can do so at
