Simple solution to horse mess

Reading the letter in The ET about horse droppings (ET January 27) prompted me to write on how it was dealt with at a small town called Niagara On The Lake near to Niagara Falls.

While on holiday there my wife and I took a ride around the town in a horse and carriage.

The horse had a bag tied directly under its tail, the purpose of which was obvious. Surely if this measure was adopted over here it would do away with this kind of complaint.

I remember as a youngster, street traders coming round with a horse and cart selling their wares, and my father would send me out with a bucket and shovel to collect the droppings as manure for the garden, hence the schoolboy joke: ‘Why are you collecting those horse droppings? ... My father wants it to put on his rhubarb ...Ug!! I prefer custard on mine.’
