More lost heritage
After reading in the ET about the selling of the old District Hospital, I sent an e-mail to Stewart Jackson MP and asked what was to become of the Memorial Wing.
Not getting a reply I emailed him again, to no avail.
So I then emailed NHS Peterborough, the primary care trust. I received a reply telling me that it is the responsibility of Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and that there are no planning conditions on the buildings – therefore the trust can do with it as it wishes.
Now, as I see it they can not do this. It is another piece of Peterborough that belongs to us that is going to vanish. But more than that it is a memorial that was paid for out of people’s pockets, where wounded soldiers received medical attention and finally it is another reminder of how some authorities (medical and civil) are working to erase all of our memorials of family and friends who sacrificed their lives and many other nationalities during the Second World War.
So I suggest if you are interested in what happens to your heritage then start making noises, write, phone and e-mail.
