Letter: Time to do the right thing on school crossing patrols

Peterborough city councillors really need to start thinking about priorities on this issue.

If money is that short and savings need making, then it’s simple, forget the money being wasted on the Olympic torch ceremony and Diamond Jubilee celebrations (something to show off to the media ... look at us how great we are), and put it all into saving school crossing patrols.

Safety of children is a top priority at all times regardless of cost. Would some of these councillors like to see their own children crossing a busy road without any support?

I work at Paston Ridings and the road outside is very busy, with visibility only 100 metres due to the bend in the road, making crossing safely very difficult.

It would be an accident waiting to happen if the patrols were removed.

For once, city council, use your common sense and do the right thing – keep crossing patrols.
