Letter: Taxi firm proved to be lifeline

Because of an emergency dash to A&E on Saturday evening, I had to go from Bretton to Dogsthorpe.

The roads were in a dreadful condition, as they had not been gritted. Why? This weather was forecast – there was plenty of warning.

I returned to Bretton after midnight when, because of the state of the roads, the A47 was closed.

I travelled by Cabline taxi and I have to say they were a lifeline. Ninety per cent of vehicles out that night were taxis, and my drivers were fantastic. They drove slowly and carefully, even though cars were sliding all over the place.

Shame on the council, but well done Cabline.
