Letter: Lincoln Road traffic light changes - If system ain’t broke, why fix it?
Having been out of the country for several months, I decided to go down to my local best bread shop in Peterborough.
To my dismay, I thought I was in a foreign country. there were new traffic lights, a queue of traffic going south on Lincoln Road and a queue of traffic going north and east on the old Walpole Street.
Some idiot had decided to do away with half herringbone parking and introduce parallel parking to the road, which has cut down parking facilities considerably. What parking there was available has been taken up by taxis, with drivers making use of the cosmopolitan restaurants in that area,
I eventually found somewhere to park on the Triangle pub car park, which is private. I risked it and parked there for a few minutes, I went into the bread shop and was served straight away with some lovely fresh bread.
I spoke to an assistant and commented on the mutilation of the road system. she said they had lost nearly all their trade, and how it was a complete mess with men urinating on the paved area, which used to be a small park with grass and a few flowers growing, which helped the scenery in a dismal area.
I can’t for the life of me understand what idiots took it into their heads to redesign a road system which was adequate. It has cost, I believe, somewhere in the region of half a million pounds to do.
There is the old saying – if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it – but somebody somewhere has certainly fixed it at the cost to us all.
It must be very frustrating for regular road users of that area.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:11 AMIt's now well known that that £££s frittered away on this shambles was just to 'use up' all that Depts. capital budget for 201112. If they hadn't they're 201213 budget would have been cut by an equivalent amount. The infestation of traffic lights in Pottyborough is just to keep some jobsworths in a cushy number.
