Letter: Herlington House auction - Responsible landlords
WITH regards to Herlington House being auctioned off by the city council, I would like to know if it has considered social landlords managing this property? With people in Peterborough and the Ortons in desperate need of more affordable/social housing I would hope this would be their first port of call.
Herlington House is a two-floor building, which houses flats on the first floor and office space at the bottom. It was, in the past, occupied by Children’s Services, but has stood empty for four years now. It is surrounded mainly by sheltered housing and bungalows.
The council has decided now is the right time to sell this property and that auction is the best way to do this
I should like to ask the council if it has consulted the local residents and the owners of the flats above for their views on what this building may be sold and used for, and that any development of this site is sensitive to both them and the community.
There is already plenty of private accommodation available and this property, tenants and the community would be better served by a responsible social landlord.
