Letter: Researching police from years gone by - 08/02/10
How many of your readers would know that this picture is of a Peterborough policeman?
How many of your readers would know that this picture is of a Peterborough policeman?I am a retired officer of the Cambridgeshire Special Constabulary, a member of the IPA (International Police Association) and PICA (Police Insignia Collectors Association).
I am currently trying to put together a complete collection of helmet plates, badges and insignia of Peterborough City Police, Peterborough Liberty Police, Peterborough Combined Police, Huntingdonshire Constabulary, Cambridge (Borough/City) Police and the Isle of Ely Constabulary.
To assist my research, I am also interested in any other items of memorabilia, books, documents, uniform and photographs from any of these forces.
May I ask, through your paper, if any of your readers have such items, particularly a Peterborough Specials badge from the Second World War. It is the size of a sixpence, with a King's Crown and the letters PSC on a blue background. If they are prepared to part with them, or loan in the case of photographs so they may be copied, contact me at alan@pboro.free-online.co.uk
