Flowers didn’t glorify crime
Regards the floral tributes for the armed robber at his grave in Wisbech (as reported in the ET). I think people ought to have a better sense of humour.
When Amy Winehouse died, among the tributes left in Camden were cigarettes, drink and mock ‘spliffs’ but everyone thought that was OK, as it reflected what Amy had done in her life.
The relatives of Tom Curtis are not glorifying his crimes or poking fun at the victims of his crimes. They are simply reflecting on his past life of crime; it is an acknowledgment of his reality, not a denial of his crimes.
Yes, he was a career criminal but his family loved him and are entitled, surely, to pay their respects in their way.
As Cllr John Brand says, he’s just died in the most awful way. Give his family some space to grieve.
