CONGRATULATIONS are in order to the ladies, young and old, who laced on their running shoes for Tuesday night's Race For Life at Ferry Meadows.The three-mile course might have been a little more trying than in recent years bearing in mind the stifling weather conditions, but that didn't prevent more than 2,000 of them doing their bit once again.
It didn't matter whether they ran, jogged or walked, what was important is that they turned up to boost a worthy cause – Cancer Research.
Some were there to remember a loved one they had lost, others simply because they wanted to help fund research into a disease which affects so many.
No doubt a similar number will turn out tonight. We wish them well.
Prison should do her some good
SOME people never learn. Michelle Barr, a persistent shoplifter, is clearly one of them.
Despite an alarming number of convictions for one so young, the 21-year-old has continued to trouble the courts – failing to take the many chances afforded to her.
So when a judge showed her some mercy and allowed her to leave court to pick up a prescription to help her fight against heroin addiction, you might be forgiven for thinking she would appreciate the opportunity to show she could be trusted.
No, the first chance she got she gave police the slip.
Arrested and brought back before the judge who had looked kindly on her, she soon discovered her chances had run out and she was jailed.
Hopefully, for her and for the shop owners of Peterborough, her spell in prison will give her time to reflect and change her ways.
