3 commentsLetter: Lincoln Road traffic light changes - If system ain’t broke, why fix it?
Having been out of the country for several months, I decided to go down to my local best bread shop in Peterborough.
2 commentsLetter: Herlington House auction - Responsible landlords
WITH regards to Herlington House being auctioned off by the city council, I would like to know if it has considered social landlords managing this property? With people in Peterborough and the Ortons in desperate need of more affordable/social housing I would hope this would be their first port of call.
Letter: Peterborough Garden Park plans - Provision for pedestrians
I was interested to read about the proposed extension to the Peterborough Garden Park, which is being supported by the Parnwell Residents Association.
1 commentLetter: Failings not due to immigrants
I have noted recently that there is a widespread belief that the problems within Peterborough are the result of our immigrant population.
Letter: on Labour’s immigration policy - Give facts, not anecdotes
Your correspondent Peterborough Trades Union head honcho Ron Graves, in extolling the virtues of Labour’s policy of mass, uncontrolled immigration (ET Letters, February 7), not only shows why he and his party were so resoundingly defeated at the last General Election, but, regrettably, substitutes anecdote and bombast for proven facts.
Letters: Praise for Peterborough health care and staff
THERE has been a lot of press recently about the way that elderly people are treated in hospitals, but my family would all like to say thank you and well done to all the dedicated staff on Ward A9 at Peterborough City Hospital.

Recent accounts in the national press have highlighted the plight of people with sudden neurosensory hearing loss (SNHL).
Letter: Taxi firm proved to be lifeline
Because of an emergency dash to A&E on Saturday evening, I had to go from Bretton to Dogsthorpe.
Letter: MP Jackson is so out of touch on ‘difference between an MP and a councillor’ issue
In response to MP Stewart Jackson’s letter ‘The difference between an MP and a councillor’ (February 1), I would like to point out to Mr Jackson that Westminster and his Conservative-led Government has cut the amount of money that Peterborough council will get this year.
Letters: Migrants help the economy, councillor; missing the point on civic pride
It is one thing for Cllr Fitzgerald to reply to my letter (“Costly stunts do not instil civic pride”, ET Letters, February 2), even though he did so employing the methods of distortion and misrepresentation, but quite another to use that as an excuse to attack migrant workers.
Letter: Breakfast clubs - Food for kids is a priority buy, surely?
In response to John Knowles’ letter about MP Stewart Jackson’s comments on breakfast clubs.
Letter: Language barrier for talking CCTV
What a great idea - talking CCTV cameras in the city centre!

3 commentsFlooding threat must be taken seriously
Following The ET’s article about flooding, would it be possible to put the dangers of flooding into context for people living in Peterborough?
Letter: the Olympic torch coming to Peterborough - Please justify this pointless expense
Could I challenge the council, preferably the leader, to justify the expense of £93,000 for faffing about with the Olympic torch which, apart from anything else, looks like an overgrown match, and the resurrected idea of water taxis (weren’t they supposed to be commercially funded?).
10 commentsLetter: Costly stunts do not instil civic pride
By accusing Cllrs Ed Murphy and Nick Sandford of lacking civic pride, Cllr Wayne Fitzgerald provides further evidence of the crassness of the Tories on Peterborough City Council.
Letter: on school crossing patrols being saved - Unpopular and unnecessary move
I would like to thank everyone for their support for the school crossing patrollers (aka lollipop ladies/men, not guards) and helping us convince the Tory councillors, yet again, that any move to remove council-funded school crossing patrollers is not only unpopular, but also unnecessary.

Letter: The difference between an MP and a councillor
Your correspondent Ms Day-Dempsey seems unable to distinguish between the role of a Member of Parliament and of elected local city councillors in her diatribe aimed at me and the Conservative administration (ET Letters, January 27, “Why should we pay more and get less”?).
Letter: Many people can’t afford 50p a day for breakfast for their children
I read with interest our MP Stewart Jackson’s column on Friday.
Letter: Cars race to get away from work at Lynch Wood
Thank you for your report of the roving car nabbing £25,000 in fines. Lynch Wood, with 93 caught, came fourth. This is a road that hardly has any traffic except for the morning and evening peak with people going to and leaving the offices.
1 commentLetter: Peterborough Match Fund - Something really special for groups in need of cash
With all the doom and gloom in the air at the moment, Mike Greene (“Secret millionaire’s challenge to help local charities”, ET January 25) has shown exceptional verve and determination by supporting an innovative way of encouraging local groups to build new sources of income, and incentivising donors to be generous.
Letter: Why aren’t travellers given parking tickets?
Regarding the council discussions for traveller transit site locations, there are a number of points I would like to raise.

After reading in the ET about the selling of the old District Hospital, I sent an e-mail to Stewart Jackson MP and asked what was to become of the Memorial Wing.

This week’s vote in the House of Lords to water down the Government’s long overdue welfare reforms – the centrepiece being a cap on welfare payments of £26,000, which is supported in the latest polling by 76 per cent of voters – was extremely disappointing.
Letter: Make sure lollipop cuts scheme is thrown out
It is hard to believe that Peterborough City Council is to cut back on lollipop attendants and I trust that common sense will prevail and the scheme abolished. With the roads so busy it needs to.
