A special ceremony to install a new vicar to St John the Baptist Church in Peterborough was held on Saturday (8 September).

The Reverend Canon Ian Black started his role this weekend at St John’s, in Cathedral Square, with a special Evensong service at the Cathedral.

He was also installed as a residentiary canon at Peterborough Cathedral.

Canon Black previously served for 10 years in Leeds, as vicar of Whitkirk and as a member of the Chapter of Ripon Cathedral.

Yesterday, during the service, he was presented to Peterborough Cathedral by the Dean of Ripon to the Bishop of Peterborough, The Right Reverend Donald Allister.

Earlier in the year, The Very Reverend Charles Taylor, Dean of Peterborough, warmly welcomed the appointment.

He said: “Ian’s principal ministry will be to the city centre parish but his additional role as a Residentiary Canon and member of the Cathedral Chapter opens the way for a potentially exciting partnership between the Cathedral and St John’s in shared mission to our City Centre.”
