Lorry driver suffers burns in overhead power line crash

A lorry driver suffered burns after a collision with overhead power lines in Chatteris.

Emergency services were called to Block Fen Drove, Chatteris at about 4pm yesterday following the collision.

A fire had broken out involving and HGV that had been involved in a collision with power lines.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “A male casualty was out of the vehicle on the arrival of the fire service and was taken to hospital by air ambulance suffering burns.

“Firefighters pumped water from an open water nearby to put of the fire and returned to their stations by 7.50pm.”

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman added: “An ambulance, two rapid response vehicles, a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) vehicle, an ambulance officer and Magpas air ambulance attended.

“A man with serious injuries was flown to Addenbrookes for further care.”
