Increase in car keys stolen for '˜high value vehicles' in Peterborough

The thefts are said to be taking place after people leave their keys in places such as hallways or kitchen tables, or even in the door lock.

Helen O’Driscoll, crime reduction officer, said: “We are seeing an increase in burglaries that involve stealing car keys for high value vehicles.

“We have had three recently in the Bretton area and another in Brownlow Road in the east of the city.

“Most people enter the home and leave keys in hallways, on kitchen tables or even keep them in the door lock and offenders are taking advantage of this.

“Please make sure all doors and windows are secure before you go to bed, leave all your keys somewhere hidden from view (not on a hook behind the door or in reach from a cat/dog flap) and if you park your vehicle on your driveway then I do recommend purchasing a driveway alarm (highly effective and great value for money).

“Please also remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. These offenders might visit an area a couple of times before committing their crime.”
