A special fire truck and a guard of honour meant that the funeral for Malcolm Bean was no ordinary affair, as many residents watched his coffin delivered to St Mary’s Church to be laid to rest.

Malcolm passed away from a cardiac arrest aged 57 at his home in Owens Garden.

He had set-up Malcolm James Independent Estate Agents in High Causeway 20-years-ago with his sister Lorraine Bingley, and he joined Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service in June 1985 as an on-call firefighter.

Malcolm was born in Taunton, Somerset but raised in Gunthorpe where he attended the local primary school before going to Deacons School.

A keen local footballer, the Leeds fan was an apprentice at Baker Perkins and worked in the Starlite Suite at Peterborough United before going into real estate with the now liquidated firm Cornerstone.

Malcolm was described as a jovial and well-liked character, and confirmation of that was seen in the big turnout today (Monday, February 8) despite the unpleasant conditions.
