It appears there is a new seal causing a big splash in Peterborough.

The famous Sammy the Seal caused a huge wave of emotion all the way back in 2007 when he was first seen in the River Nene.

But a new one-eyed seal appears to have taken residence in Orton Mere according to onlookers.

Sammy himself was previously spotted in Orton Mere in May 2013, one of a number of sightings of the beloved seal.

The photogenic animal even posed for the Peterborough Telegraph cameras after he was spotted bobbing his head out of the water near the Boathouse, in Thorpe Meadows.

The latest sighting of a seal in Peterborough was made today (Tuesday, January 5) by lucky photographer Emily Reynolds.

Emily said the Nene Park Ranger had told her that the seal had been in roughly the same spot since Boxing Day with a few reported sightings.

So what name shall we give Peterborough’s one-eyed seal? Anyone for Ron Seal?
