Tropical downpours hit Peterborough yesterday afternoon (July 31) and flooded parts of the city.Ominous clouds and humid conditions had hinted at a thunderstorm but no-one could have predicted the strength of the downpour when the heavens opened at around 4pm yesterday.
The torrential rain only lasted an hour but it left the city soaked.
Many people were caught unawares, having revelled in four of the hottest days of the year so far, they found themselves more in need of wellies than suncream.

Commuters had to improvise with some using newspapers to cover their heads while others whipped off their shoes as they waded through flooded streets.
The Met Office is forecasting more high temperatures over the weekend with heavy more downpours expected on Saturday afternoon (August 2).
