Children were learning how to be chess kings and queens with help from a top Peterborough club at their school.

The budding grandmasters at John Clare Primary School in Helpston got help from the Peterborough Chess Club to help them improve their board play.

Former teacher June Clement, who runs the after school club, which has 34 members, said: “We play for enjoyment but I suppose chess can be good for helping children with concentration or learning to plan ahead as really good players do plan their a few moves in advance.”
